Sony Xperia Z3 Release Date at IFA 2014: Specs Leaked by China’s Certification Agency

Specs for the Sony Xperia Z3 may have been leaked on the website of an official Chinese agency that handles certification for mobile devices sold in China.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, China's TENAA agency posted a picture of what appears to be the Xperia Z3 on its site along with a description. The organization did not list the name of the device, even though the images show the Sony logo on the cover.

Besides photos, the posting listed specs for the mystery smartphone. The device reportedly has a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor that is rated at 2.5 GHz. The phone also has 3BG RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. To the rear of the camera, there is a 20.7-megapixel camera. Regarding the exterior color, consumers can choose between amber, black, or white covers.

This model of the alleged Xperia Z3 will ship out to the Chinese market on Aug. 15, TENAA says. Even if the anonymous device turns out to be Xperia Z3, it may be awhile before the Sony flagship reaches U.S. consumers. The latest tech gossip suggests that this phone will start shipping out to stores in North America in the last quarter of 2014. 

Over these past days, there have been persistent rumors that Sony will introduce the Xperia Z3 at the upcoming IFA conference in Berlin, Germany. The Japanese firm recently invited members of the press for a Sept. 3 unveiling event of devices yet to be named. Meanwhile, rival Samsung has also organized a similiar event that may reveal the Galaxy Note 4. The Samsung gathering is scheduled to be held on the same day as the Sony event. Officially, Sony's current flagship is the Xperia Z2, but that may change with the introduction of newer devices at IFA 2014.
