Release date clues for Moto X 3rd Generation and Moto 360 2nd Generation have been surfacing over the weeks, leading to speculation that Motorola may soon unveil these rumored devices later this year. Naturally, Motorola has not formally announced these two devices. At this time, both the Moto X (2015) and Moto 360 (Gen 2) exist in the overactive imagination of tech gossip community.

Further rumors were sparked by both a tweet from Motorola's President, and leaked information over at China's Weibo. Based on past record, Motorola has consistently upgraded its flagship device lineup every year. That means the Moto X and Moto 360 are due for an upgrade in 2015 - giving some plausibility to the rumors.

Weibo Leaks: Has the Moto 360 2nd Generation Been Revealed?

China-base Sina Weibo is where many purported leaked information is distributed. This is not surprising considering that the vast majority of device manufacturers outsource production to the nation of 1.4 billion. There are bound to be the occasional security breaches from the very secretive handset companies.

As revealed by Slashgear, there were at least two occasions where Moto 360 (Gen 2) information was leaked over Weibo. Earlier in April, an anonymous poster claimed that the next gen Moto 360 will have an increased resolution of 360x360. By comparison, the first generation Moto 360 had a resolution of 320x290. This leak followed after another Weibo posting in March, where a second poster revealed that Lenovo and Motorola were teaming up on Moto 360 (Gen 2) development. The second leak showed photos of what appears to be straps used in the next generation Moto 360. Both Weibo postings were taken down very quickly.

It is not clear how far along production is with the next gen Moto 360. Naturally, every rumor should be regarded with a healthy dose of skepticism - considering that many predictions fail to come true. Concerning release dates however, there have not been any significant leak information that can give a hint concerning the launch schedule for the Moto 360 2nd Generation.

Moto X 3rd Generation Release Date Teased by Motorola President

At roughly the same time frame of the Weibo leaks, Motorola's President Rick Osterloch tweeted that his company will "stay on a roughly annual cycle for all our products, including Moto X." Osterloch had been responding to a question regarding the Moto X 3rd Generation release date.

So, there is confirmation that Motorola is working on the 2015 generation version of the Moto X. There is a very good chance that the new Moto X may be unveiled this year. The Moto X (1st Generation) was released in August 2013. Motorola launched the Second Generation Moto X in September 2014.

Provided that Motorola follows the same time frame, the Moto X Gen 3 may be ready sometime between August and October 2015.
