'Castle' Season 8 Release Date, Plot, Spoilers: TV Series Focuses on Kate Beckett, Rick Castle's Love Story

Stana Katic
Stana Katic's Kate Beckett is the new captain of 12th Precinct in "Castle" Season 8.

The premiere date of "Castle" Season 8 is drawing nearer, so fans and followers of the widely popular TV series are now eagerly waiting for potential plot spoilers and other updates regarding their favorite crime fighting pair.

With Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) already confirmed as the new captain of 12th Precinct, the feisty investigator will be seen behind the desk more frequently this season. Meanwhile, some eager spectators believe that "Castle" Season 8 will see Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) out in the mean streets of New York - presumably investigating cases on his own.

Although Katic's character will be forced to deal with paper work and the changes brought about by her new position in "Castle" Season 8, the detective within the now precinct captain could not be silenced. Sources reveal that the plot of "Castle" Season 8 might delve more deeply into the death of Beckett's mother, Johanna. With the additional responsibilities brought in by her new job, the strain the position will definitely bring in her relationships and the adjustment period she will surely need to fulfill her duties, it will be interesting to see how Beckett intends to deal with the investigation of her mom's demise in "Castle" Season 8.

Apart from focusing on the murder of her mother, "Castle" Season 8 will also show how Beckett and Rick will deal with the changes in their relationship. With Beckett's new position as captain, the involvement of Rick in the cases handled by the police becomes the subject of closer scrutiny. Hence, the viewers could expect that the two will not be working closely together in terms of solving crimes and fighting the bad guys. That is not to say though that the romance between the two will fizzle in "Castle" Season. In fact, their bond in the upcoming season will be stronger than ever.

"The important thing to say about [Rick and Kate] is that the show has always been and will always be about their love affair," shared executive producer Alexis Hawley, according to Entertainment Weekly. He added, "But we're looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it. We're going to have fun. It's going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic. It will be everything."

Another exciting and interesting story line to be featured in "Castle" Season 8 is the growth of Rick's daughter, Alexis Castle (Molly Quinn). According to the creators of "Castle," the once little and adorable child of the crime novelist is now all grown up. With this development comes the desire of Alexis to spread her wings and explore everything the city has to offer. As fans and followers of the TV series would know, Rick has been quite protective of his little girl so watching her turn into a mature lady in front of his very eyes will definitely make for an exciting episode in "Castle" Season 8.

"Castle" Season 8 will premiere on September 21, 2015 at 10 pm ET on ABC. To see the latest poster for the upcoming season, click here.
