One Direction is taking four different directions starting March 2016 as the popular boy band announced plans to take on an extended hiatus to pursue personal projects.
However, PEOPLE Magazine said the hiatus does not mean the British boy band, comprised of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, will be breaking up. The one-year hiatus was actually an agreement amongst the four members.
It added that the one year hiatus also means that fans of Directioners will not be seeing a tour after the release of One Directions fifth album that is scheduled for release later this year.
A source told E! Online, "They are taking a hiatus so they can work on individual projects for a while but they are not splitting up. They will remain together and plan to work together in the future."
The source added, "They are great friends and fully support one another. They are very aware that they are able to work on their own stuff as well as remain together. This is an exciting time for them creatively and as a group."
The announcement follows the release of the group's latest music video for "Drag Me Down," the first since Zayn Malik left the group in March this year. Malik said he left the group because he felt "it was not real for him," and added he cannot continue doing things with his 1D bandmates.
Malik has since signed a solo record deal with RCA Music to launch his his solo career.
"I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !!" he posted on his Twitter page. AJH
The source added that fans of 1D can be assured that the four matinee idols would return to the stage again together after their "vacation."
"They love working together," the source shared. "They envision a future together but with the freedom to do other things as well."
So stay calm, 1D is not yet saying goodbye.
