Warner Brothers and DC Comics are banking a lot on their Cinematic Universe with the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016, and they will be releasing a screen version of one of their most iconic female characters: Wonder Woman.  After the Amazing Amazon's appearance in that film, she will have her movie in 2017, followed by two Justice League movies (one in 2017 and one in 2019). This is what we know about Wonder Woman and Justice League movies with Release Dates and News.

Gal Gadot will play the iconic character, and she has recently posted a picture of herself in costume, according to CNET.  There have also been pictures posted of Chris Pine, best known for playing Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, playing the iconic love interest Steve Trevor.  Also appearing in the film is Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Said Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis.  The film will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who is most famous for her work with Monster, the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Recently, pictures of Pin and Taghmaoui appeared on social media as they were in actor chairs with 40's period costumes.  These pictures were then deleted from Taghmoui's Instagram account.

Wonder Woman is one of those characters that has changed a lot over the years in the comics since her first appearance in 1941.  Most remember her on screen with the seventies Wonder Woman TV show with Lynda Carter, and there was also a made-for-TV movie in 1974 with Kathie Lee Crosby.  These two offerings are remembered for their campy flavor, but this Wonder Woman movie looks serious.

Wonder Woman is a character with a very rich backstory being a princess from the Amazon island of Themyscira aka Paradise Island, along with the Greek mythology that weaves in with her origins.  There was an NBC attempt at a pilot in the last decade, and even Joss Whedon, director of the two Avengers films, attempted a screenplay.

In addition to the Wonder Woman movie (with a release date of June 23, 2017), Gadot is contracted for at least two other DC Universe movies with Justice League Part One with November 17, 2017, and Justice League Part Two sometime in 2019.  The cast list for the Justice League movies includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, according to Cinema Blend

Considering all the money that has to be invested to make blockbuster films like these, it is clear that DC and Warner expect a lot of followers for its new Cinematic universe.  Perhaps the numbers from the Justice League movies will equal that of the Avengers franchise but it all hinges on the success of Batman v. Superman
