2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Specs, Design, Release Date: Next-Generation E-Class Prototype Spotted in New Spy Video

The upcoming 2017 model of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will officially be launched by the German luxury car maker during next year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

Several leaks have already surfaced online showing that the next-generation E-Class sedan will get an updated design that is more dynamic than its predecessor, but now car enthusiasts may finally have a glimpse of the upcoming model as it has just been spied in motion in a video (see below) posted on YouTube by user "walkoArt."

The last time the automaker released an E-Class was early last year. The 2017 version of the sedan will reportedly feature a coupe and cabriolet models and will have an encompassing upgrade both on its visuals and engine. While the E-Class has been a staple in Mercedes-Benz' lineup for a while, the 2014 model has struggled to keep up with the company's more popular models. Top Speed describes the E-Class as relatively undersized and overpriced.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is predicted as an update that will make up for the drawbacks of its predecessor. Reports have it that the E-Class redesign will be comprehensive as those previously made on the C-Class and the S-Class. The next Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is expected to use the same platform as its four-door brother, but it will sport a sloping roofline towards the rear and with small design upgrade to the front and rear ends.

According to CarScoops.com, the engine lineup will be shared with the sedan, and it is expected to feature a range of four-, six- and eight-cylinder units including an updated version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, signed by AMG, in the range-topping E63.

It will also supposedly come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine along with diesel engine variants. A V6 engine variant will possibly make way for direct injected gasoline and common-rail diesel inline sixes in order to send power to the rears by utilizing a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The model will ride on the MRA platform that will reduce the weight of the chassis despite an increase in size that will grant a more spacious cabin and a larger trunk. The interior will largely be sourced from the E-Class Sedan (W213), WorldCarFans.com predicts, so buyers can expect a dual digital screen layout as the one found on S-Class models.

As seen in the clip below, the vehicle is dressed in heavy camouflage, but it's easy to notice that it will look very much similar to the smaller C-Class Coupe. The outgoing model the side mirrors mounted on the A-pillars. The new E-Class, however, will apparently come with door-mounted mirrors.

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is set to debut in its home market in Germany on January 18, shortly after the Detroit Auto Show. It is expected to make it to US showrooms during the second half of next year.
