A lot of people are wondering what happened to Nintendo.  We recently reported that there were rumors (that Nintendo denied) that the Wii U was going to cease production by the end of this year.  True, the Wii U is not selling as well as its predecessor, but perhaps that could change with the launch of Nintendo's new system, the NX.  This is what is currently known about the Nintendo NX with its release date, news, and rumors.

A report from iDigitalTimes states that the new console will be more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One. This news comes from a tweet from Indie Gamer Chick who says that the horsepower rumors are true, but denies that any shots of supposed controllers form the Wii U are false.  There was a "leaked" Nintendo NX controller that has been proven false thanks to a YouTube video

There has been a report on The Mary Sue saying that Nintendo's NX will be unveiled on E3 2016.  That is a big video game convention held every year at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and this would be the place for Nintendo to announce it as the gaming companies usually save their big announcements for this event.  However, this has not been confirmed, and neither is a Reddit source who claims to be a developer working on the NX dev kit.

It is believed that developers are working on the NX with their new hardware, so it is possible that someone might have an NX developer kit, but this person would not identify him or herself directly.  For something like this, you know that Nintendo has to have some non-disclosure agreement signing sometime.

There is a rumor saying that the Nintendo NX system will feature a second screen on the controller, and this controller would work as a mini-game oriented portable device slightly below the level of a 3DS.  Personally, I think it is a good idea for Nintendo to pack a portable gaming system with their console gaming system.  That way, the user can choose which platform they want to play on.

Of course, it could be that Nintendo is doing the same thing we are doing right now with Virtual Reality.  That is, we are all wondering if it will take off or not, and if it does, how much will we invest in it?  Are we going to purchase an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive with a gaming computer or just buy a PlayStation VR?  Nintendo is going to have to really try to predict where the video game market will go before it releases the NX, or risk the same problems that they are having with the Wii U.

Forbes gives a report that all of these rumors are nothing but good for Nintendo.  As all of these rumors just build a lot of hype for the new version of the Nintendo, assuming that it is what the new version of the console will be like.
