Nintendo Wii U ‘The Legend of Zelda’ Release Date Could Be Announced at E3 2016 along with Nintendo NX and Female Link

If you are a Nintendo lover, and were one of those that bought the Wii U because you wanted to play a new The Legend of Zelda canon game on this system, then you have probably been severely disappointed that the promised game missed its first release date.  That new The Legend of Zelda game didn't come in 2015, there is a distinct possibility that E3 2016 will reveal more about The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U, along with the possibility of the Nintendo NX and the possibility of a Female Link.

According to Design and Trend, there are rumors that The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U will not be part of Nintendo's showcase at PAX East, a video game convention happening later this month.  It is possible that Nintendo is going to have a "footage blowout" for E3 2016.  If you aren't familiar with E3, it is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, a big video game convention that is held annually at the Los Angeles Convention Center during June 13-16 this year.

Assuming that these rumors are true, this means that Nintendo will actually be able to keep their promise of giving fans a new The Legend of Zelda game for 2016.  Along with these rumors of that game is news of the Nintendo NX, the next generation of Nintendo console after the Wii U.

Right now, an announcement of a new Legend of Zelda game or the Nintendo NX would be enough to headline at E3 2016.  Most fans really want to see that new Legend of Zelda game more than a new Nintendo console, so it would make sense for Nintendo to really heap on The Legend of Zelda at E3 so that people would purchase the game as well as the Wii U.  Yes, Wii U sales haven't been good, and the company could use the boost before they replace it.

If Nintendo follows this type of marketing plan, then fans probably won't see the Nintendo NX until 2017.  At that point, the new Legend of Zelda game could just be ported there with some bonus footage to increase sales, and then fans will be talking about the next The Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo NX.

In addition to the new The Legend of Zelda game finally getting its release date, fans have another reason to get excited about the next Zelda iteration.  Ubergizmo reports that the next Zelda game could have a female Link.

This isn't too hard to believe, as a female playable character named Linkle appeared in Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U.  Players of the new The Legend of Zelda game will be able to select from a male or female link, but honestly, Link's trademark look is pretty androgynous.  There is also rumors of some voicework, which have not appeared on any Zelda games, as most of the dialogue has been traditionally delivered via text.

Well, with E3 2016 in just two months, the secrets will finally be revealed about that long-awaited The Legend of Zelda Wii U Release Date, and a female Link to boot.
