One of the great things about Android is that it gets an upgrade every year, but this also works against it.  In the case of this year's version with Android Marshmallow (also known as version 6.0 or Android M) it has come to most of the newer Android smartphones, but not to others.  Considering that there is a little delay here for HTC with Marshmallow, it might be a while before Android N (also known as Android 7.0 or Nougat) comes to HTC.  This is the latest news about Android M 6.0 Marshmallow and Android Nougat Release Date for HTC One 10, M9, One M8, and HTC Desire Series on Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and AT&T.

HTC is one of those companies that makes really good Android smartphones, and they were really good at getting Android M to their customers.  In fact, I still will recommend the recently released HTC 10, which came with Android Marshmallow right out of the package.

In fact, the company guarantees that if you have an HTC Android device, it will be upgraded with the latest (eventually).  This means that if you have the HTC One M9 or the HTC One M8, you should have access to the Marshmallow upgrade, and it doesn't matter what carrier that you have.  If you have the HTC One M7, you are pretty much out of luck when it comes to getting the upgrade.

Now, those particular phones are the flagships, but the real news that isn't really happening is any word on when the upgrade is coming for the non-flagships.  This includes these models:

  • HTC Desire 820
  • HTC Desire 816
  • HTC Desire Eye
  • HTC One M8 Eye
  • HTC One M8s
  • HTC One M9+
  • HTC One ME
  • HTC One E8
  • HTC Butterfly 3
  • HTC Desire 826

It is possible that the upgrade could be available on your newer HTC device already, but one carrier for the same phone and yet not on another, which has become a pattern for Android rollouts.  If you have a recent HTC device, you might already have access to Marshmallow already, especially if you have a flagship.  Just go to "Settings" and "System Update" to see if you can download the Over the Air (OTA) upgrade now.

As for when the release date for Android Nougat is coming, there is some news on that as University Herald reports that the Android Nougat update will be coming to the HTC 10, HTC One M9, and the HTC One A9.  Considering that HTC guarantees that their flagships from two years ago will receive the upgrade, it is not likely that the HTC One M8 will receive the Nougat upgrade.
