One of the good things about Android is its tendency to upgrade, and to do it automatically, provided you have a newer device. Considering that Samsung is huge champion of the open-source operating system, it really is good that Android Version 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) is on most Samsung devices. However, Android Version 7.0, also known as Android N or Nougat is on the way, and this is the latest news on Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow and Android Nougat Release Date for Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge +, Note 5, Note 4, Note 3, and S5 on Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
According to Tech Radar, most of Samsung's gadgets already have it. This includes the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, which launched with Marshmallow right out of the packaging. As for the other flagships, these pretty much have been covered with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. As for that the Galaxy S5, it is available on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, with no flagships no lower than that. If you have a Galaxy S4 and S3, then you are probably out of luck.
As for Samsung phablets, the Galaxy Note 7 is on the way, and it will have Marshmallow right out of the box. The Galaxy Note 5 should have Marshmallow on most carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile. As for the Note 4, it has come on the Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint, according to Android Authority.
Other updates are showing up which include the Galaxy S6 Edge +, not to mention the Galaxy S5 Neo in the UK and Europe. The Galaxy Tab S2 is also receiving the update to Android M in 9.7 and 8.0 inch sizes, and the Galaxy Tab S and that goes for the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 as well.
It should be noted that Android Nougat is coming out very soon, and it will come to Nexus devices first, possibly even older models. Gotta Be Mobile suggests that it will come out in Q4 of 2016, but it could be happening early 2017. After years of watching with new releases of Android upgrades, this seems to be the pattern. A separate report from Gotta Be Mobile states that Nougat will be coming to the Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge +, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and the Galaxy Note 5.
If you own a "newer" Samsung devices are encouraged to check your "Settings" and "System Updates" to see if Marshmallow is ready to download OTA. This upgrade might not be ready depending on your U.S. carrier, as it has been shown that certain carriers receive the Android upgrade before others, with no real pattern.
