NFL Rumors: Colin Kaepernick Heading To Seattle Seahawks After San Francisco’s Loss to Buffalo Bills

On Sunday, Colin Kaepernick took the field for the first time as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. However, since he failed to end his team's losing streak, he might end up playing for a different franchise next year, such as the Seattle Seahawks.

At Week 6, the 49ers faced off against the Buffalo Bills but lost the game 16 to 45. So far, this is the team's worst lost ever since the 2016 NFL season started.

Rumors about Kaepernick taking on the starting spot emerged last week after talks of a new contract between him and the 49ers emerged. Although these largely point to the athlete becoming the No. 1 QB for the San Francisco franchise, it was also speculated that the contract had something to do with Kaepernick's tenure with the team.

Aside from being the team's main passer, the contract also reportedly states that this will be Kaepernick's last year with the team. That means by the 2017 offseason, he will be a free agent.

As an unrestricted athlete, Kaepernick will have the freedom to sign with any team that presents an offer. One possible landing spot for the athlete could be the Seahawks. Since Week 3, the Seattle franchise has been playing games without its starting quarterback Russell Wilson, who sprained his left knee during the game against the 49ers.

Depending on Wilson's condition, the Seahawks could find themselves relying on backup QB Trevone Boykin to lead them for the rest of the season. If this happens, then the team will be in serious need to find a new quarterback for next year.

If Kaepernick is available, the Seahawks could extend an offer to him, although it is not guaranteed if he will be their starting or backup QB. Either way, he will make a great fit to the team especially given its current offensive line.

However, 49ers fans should keep in mind that despite the latest loss and rumors of Kaepernick being a free agent, these don't automatically mean that he's a bad quarterback.

As San Francisco's defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil noted, one of the main problems of the team is their run defense, which was highlighted during the match against the Bills.

"Obviously, the biggest thing we need to focus on is stopping the run," he said. "We've got to do a better job there, and it's technique, it's tackling, it's doing a better job executing scheme."
