Leaked and confirmed details appear to indicate the OnePlus 5 is more of a rival for the Apple iPhone 7 Plus as the two are nearly identical. And contrary to earlier rumors, the touted flagship killer will not come out June 15 as the release date will happen five days later.

The rumor that OnePlus 5 will hit the market on the 15th this month proved untrue as CNET reported that June 20 "is the day of the official reveal globally." The report said OnePlus provided direct confirmation on the launch date.

Prior to the company's official statement, a poster leaked out and indicated the flagship handset will be introduced June 15 in China. It's unclear if the earlier date mentioned will remain as the OnePlus 5 commercial debut for the Chinese market.

As indicated by the same report CNET, the OnePlus smartphone brand has gained considerable following for its unique packaging of premium specifications but with pricing that is considered as mid-range. The OnePlus 3T, for instance, originally sold for just $400 but with Qualcomm's 2016 flagship Snapdragon 821 chip and 6GB of installed RAM.

And it looks like the OnePlus flagship model will continue with the OP5, the handset has been confirmed to boast of Snapdragon 835 SoC or the same processing system found on the Samsung Galaxy S8. But unlike the GS8 that only came with 4GB of RAM, the OnePlus 5 will jump out of the box boasting of 8GB RAM.

Purportedly, this has been confirmed by a listing posted in Amazon India, 9to5Google reported. "OnePlus 5 powered by 2.35GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor and 8GB of RAM will release on 22nd of June 2017 as an exclusive at Amazon.in. Subscribe to notify and buy your OnePlus 5 only on Amazon.in," the Amazon product listing was quoted by the report as saying.

It should be noted that the entry is in line with the details mentioned above - that the OnePlus 5 global rollout will commence on June 20, and as confirmed by OnePlus executives.

Another interesting new detail that emerged about the handset is its industrial design. As observed by 9to5Mac, if the latest leaked renders of the OnePlus 5 will prove correct the device is "a blatant copy," of the iPhone 7 Plus.

"The only real difference between the two smartphones is the placement of the home and volume buttons," the report said, adding that a closer look will suggest the iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5 share the same design blueprint.

And to further make its case, the report indicated the OnePlus 5 will include dual camera, home button-embedded fingerprint reader and a 1080p display resolution, which are all found on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The OnePlus 5 though will at least differ in the platform department as the OxygenOS to run the device is Android-based. And perhaps to serve as the most distinct feature of the OP5 is the pricing. If rumors are true, the OnePlus 5 64GB basic model will for no more than $450.

There will be a premium OnePlus 5 edition with 128GB of internal memory but this will only sell for $499.
