After Pressure from Google, Apple, Arizona Governor Vetoes Religious Freedom Bill SB1062
After facing strong opposition to the bill from gay-rights activist groups, Governor Jan Brewer vetoed Senate Bill 1062 (SB1062) Wednesday citing that the legislation “does not address a specific or present concern related to religious liberty in Arizona.” The bill would have protected business owners who refuse service to clients for genuine religious reasons.

The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the Hobby Lobby founders' case against the Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate on March 25. The Justice Department appealed to the Supreme Court after the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled in favor of the Green family's for-profit business in September of last year.

Arizona Bill Gives Businesses Freedom to Discriminate Based on Religion, Gay-Rights Activists Protest
The Arizona legislature recently passed SB1062, a bill which gives business owners in the state the right to refuse service because of religious beliefs. Although gay-rights activists have stirred up quite the controversy over the legislation, supporters of the bill maintain that the bill is meant to protect religious freedom and not to promote discrimination. Republican Governor Jan Brewer will have until the end of the week to either sign the legislation into law or veto it.
