The latest edition of Honda Civic bagged the auto industry's top award, the North American Car of the Year, during the first day of the Detroit auto show. The previous version of Civic received poor reviews from critics, forcing Honda to go back to the drawing board. Now, their strategy and plan seems to be successful. The 2016 Honda Civic emerged victorious during the opening of the North American International Auto Show. The company is now in the driver's seat with a redesign car. USA Today stressed that the improvements in the car greatly helped Honda.

Last year, Honda only sold 335,384 Civics compared to Toyota's tally of 363,332 Corollas, statistics from the Wall Street Journal showed.  Car experts believed the improved 2016 Honda Civic will beat the sales of Toyota Corolla this year.

The tenth-generation of Civic has sleek features and sportier-looking body. Also, everything at the A-pillars (the frame that supports the windshield) has been redesigned. Honda fans will notice the car's longer hood and shorter rear overhang.

Under the hood of 2016 Honda Civic, it boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, the Civic's first turbo, which pumps up 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque--making it better from the previous models.

The upgraded power and torque exhibited better fuel economy. Drivers can go a long way because of the Civic's fuel-efficient technology. Also, the car boasts tight, sharp handling and an efficient turbocharged engine.

As for its securities aspect, Civic 2016 can compete with best sedans in the market. The latest car from Honda boasts Sensing Package that includes assisted collision braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning signals. It also has LaneWatch system, which eliminates blind spots and gives a better view on the roads.

Honda senior product planner Michael Willrich said the base price of 2016 Honda Civic is at $18,640 while LX model costs $150 more than the 2015 model.
