After being spied recently under minimal camouflage, a prototype of the upcoming 2016 Porsche Boxster was photographed completely disguise-free. The new photos have finally given us an unhampered view of the model's facelifted design.

The images of the 2016 Porsche Boxster, one of them pictured above, was captured by AutoBlog.com's spy photographers. Judging from the photos, it appears that the German automobile maker has treated the new Boxster with a turbo-charged engine as it enters the era of four-cylinder power plants.

At the front, the car's headlights have apparently been modified and look to sport a more angular shape. The front bumper's design is also revised, with the intakes highlighting an entirely altered shape compared to those on the present model.

Additionally, a couple of slim-line LED daytime running lights have been mounted which seem to be smaller than those found on the current Boxster. As we can see, the changes are relatively subtle enough that owners of the existing Boxster model may have a hard time spotting the differences.

Although the visual changes will not be dramatic for the updated 2016 Porsche Boxster, the mechanical changes under the hood will apparently be. Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller has previously confirmed that the both Boxster and its model sibling, the Porsche Cayman, will be integrated with four-cylinder power in mid-2016, which is also when the facelifted versions of both models are expected to be released to the market.

Moreover, AutoBlog's sources claim that the larger side intakes featured on the 2016 Porsche Boxster prototype is an obvious sign that it will pack a smaller, force-induced flat-four engine. Mueller has also hinted earlier that the automaker's flat-four engine, which should come in 2.0- and 2.5-liter variants along with turbo-charging, could develop a metric horsepower of up to 400 in some guises. That translates to roughly 395 regular horsepower.

Engine-wise, the most powerful versions of the present Boxster and Cayman models are the recently launched Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. These cars produce 385 and 375 horsepower from their flat-six engines, respectively.

Given that the 2016 Porsche Boxster prototype was already spied camouflage-free, it means an official reveal is very much in the horizon. WorldCarFans.com has reason to believe that the next-generation Boxster will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany next month. That's in contrast to previous reports which indicated that the 2016 Porsche Boxster will be revealed during an event in Geneva on March next year.
