For car enthusiasts who want to buy a new Honda Civic with powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a manual gearbox, they have to wait until the 2017 model becomes available. Called "prototype,"  the next-generation Civic is expected to boast the most-advanced car features. Now, here's the latest roundup of update about  2017 Honda Civic release date, specs and rumors on the web.

Motor Authority reported the base model of the forthcoming Civic will have a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine pumping out 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. In addition, there's an optional 1.5-liter turbocharged four that produces 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.

The naturally-aspirated engine will be available with either a six-speed manual transmission or CVT automated, and the turbo engine will come with CVT.

Outside, the next Civic will have a passing resemblance to the tenth-generation Civic that was launched last year. It is also reported that some attributes like front and even rear bumpers with open-air intakes and large green trim would not make it to the manufacturing. The car will also ditch the elongated vertical tail lamps.

For the interior features, the Civic hatchback will have top-of-the-line technology. The driver will be welcomed by a 7.0-inch touchscreen that has support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will also offer the Garmin-developed navigation system. Additionally, the car has Honda Sensing Safety Package for a more comfortable driving experience.

Digital Trends said the next Civic is scheduled to arrive next year and it will it debut at a major American auto show. The same source also reported the car might have a preview later this year in Los Angeles or early next year in Detroit.

As for the price of 2017 Honda Civic, industry experts say its base price will be at 18,640.  The price of the car will be different depending on the model and specs.

Interestingly, Honda Australia director Stephen Collins told in CarAdvice that the tenth-generation Civic has sold 23 million units worldwide. He also added the company started to develop the 2017 Civic months after the launch of the current model.

In 2013, the Civic sold in decent numbers at about 14,261 units, but in 2014, its sales were decreased at 7,878 units--a nearly 45 percent dip. Those figures halved again in 2015, with just 4,326 examples sold. In 2007, the sales of the car peaked with 17,643 units sold.

Honda hopes that the 2017 Civic will boost the sales of the company in the future.
