Honda is gearing up to launch new models of Civic. During this year's New York auto show, Honda announced it will introduce the 1.5L turbo, six-speed manual transmission combo in every Civic body type - coupe, hatchback and sedan. Here are the latest updates about 2017 Civic Si and Civic Type R.

Let's start with Honda's 2017 Civic Si. In a post from CivicX.com, it says the newest Civic Si models will become available later next year or in the first quarter of 2017. This information is from Honda fanatic savant "HondaPro Jason." Also, HondaPro Jason said the 2017 Civic will have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 220 to 230 horsepower.

This turbo engine is reportedly a watered-down version of the next-generation Type R engine. However, it is reported both models will use at least 2.0-liter engines.

As per reports from Car and Driver, the next Type R will continue to use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that produces at least 300 horsepower. So, it would make sense for Honda to install a turbo in the Si and to give it somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 horsepower to be able to compete against its competitor Volkswagen's GTI.

Interestingly, the same source from Car and Driver says HondaPro Jason has many connections in the auto industry, so his leaked information might be true. Honda has not yet confirmed the rumor thus far.  There are also no details about if Si variants will continue to be manual-only or it will have an automatic model.

On the other hand, Honda claims the upcoming 2017 Hoda Civic Type R will be the fastest front-wheel-drive car in Germany's Nurburgring circuit, according to a report from Car and Advice.  The current Type-R set the fastest time of 7:50:63 around the iconic track in May 2014. However, Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S beat that record at 7:49:21.

The chief engineer of the 10th-generation Honda Civic confirms this assertion to make Type R the fastest FWD car at Nurburgring circuit. "We are developing with that as our target" Tadashi Inazu stated.

The powerful car is expected to become available to Australia late next year. Also, it could come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
