It seems that Toyota is gearing up for something big this year. The Japanese car manufacturer is set to introduce the hybrid 2017 Prius Prime and the sophisticated 2017 Corolla later this year. Now, here's what is currently known about 2017 Toyota Corolla and Prius release dates, specs, and rumors on the web.

Let's start with rumors about 2017 Toyota Prius Prime. Today's reports say the hybrid car boasts 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle four mated to a hybrid system. It can also run for up to 22 miles on pure electricity, which is enough that 51% of Americans won't use gasoline in their daily travel.

Furthermore, the Prime can also get 84 mph in EV mode, and estimates show its total driving range is more than 600 miles. Interestingly, buyers can charge its 8.8 kWh battery on a standard household outlet. Its charging hours on a household outlet is about 5.5 hours. A 240-volt Level 2 charger will cut that charging time in half, according to Motor Authority.

As for the 2017 Prius Prime interior features, expect to see a huge 11.6-inch tablet-style HD touch screen. The car is also capable of automatic parking using its ultrasonic wave sensors.

According to Auto Blog, the 50th Anniversary Special Edition of Corolla is based on the latest Corolla SE. Outside, it sports 17-inch alloys in two-tone finish partnered with LED headlamps. Inside, it offers 7-inch touch screen, Entune Audio Plus and 4.2-inch instrument display.

Additionaly, the next-generation Corolla is equipped with Toyota's Safety Sense-P suite of active and passive safety systems, which offers adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and forward collision warning, as per reports from CNET.

Interested buyers of 2017 Corolla can choose one in dark red, silver or white models, and it is scheduled to become available this fall.

Toyota released the first Corolla in Japan in 1996, and the company started to sell it in the United States two years after. In 2005, the Japanese car maker sold the 30-millionth Corolla, and by now has sold over 43 million of them.
