Boxing champion and pastor George Foreman passed away on Friday, March 21, at the age of 76.
His official Instagram shared a heartfelt message from his family,
"Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."
The message continued, "An Olympian and two-time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected—a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name for his family." The family concluded by expressing their gratitude: "We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own."

Foreman was more than just a boxer. He was one of the most powerful heavyweight champions in boxing history and a man who built his life upon faith. At just 24, he claimed the WBA, WBC, and The Ring heavyweight titles, becoming a world champion at a young age. After retiring, he made a remarkable comeback at 38 and, at 45, reclaimed the WBA and IBF titles, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
However, Foreman’s life was not defined solely by his time in the ring. A devout Christian, he dedicated himself to spreading the gospel and serving others. In 1977, after a near-death experience following a match, he claimed to have encountered God. This profound moment led him to retire abruptly from boxing and pursue a life of ministry. He later became a pastor, established a church, and committed his life to faith and service.
In a 2023 interview with The Christian Post, Foreman reflected on his journey, saying, “At some point in life, you realize the only thing that truly matters is being an evangelist.” He added, “No matter what happens tomorrow... I know I have done good, and I am happy that I have worked to share the presence of Jesus Christ within me with the world.”
Foreman’s legacy goes beyond sports. He was not only a fierce warrior in the ring but also a compassionate man who dedicated his life to inspiring and uplifting others. People will remember not just his legendary fights but also his unwavering faith, philosophy, and generosity.
The legacy of George Foreman will live on forever. Whether in the boxing ring or from the pulpit, he always stood strong in his faith and love for others, leaving behind an enduring impact that will continue to inspire generations to come.
