Academy Awards 2016 Nominations and Winner Predictions for Best Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress

The biggest stars in the entertainment industry are set to collide again at the 88th Academy Awards. This much-awaited event will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, and viewers can watch it live on ABC. Earlier this month, members of the Academy released the nominees for this year's Oscars. Now, we'll give you a report about predictions for the 2016 Academy Awards.

Let's start with the possible winner of Best Picture award.

Best Picture Nominees:

  • Bridge of Spies
  • Brooklyn
  • Room
  • Spotlight
  • The Big Short
  • The Revenant
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • The Martian

Predicted winner:  "Spotlight"

Tom McCarthy's Spotlight is about a child molestation exposé against the Catholic Church. Movie critics say the movie has exquisite cast members from top to bottom.  Also, the magic of the movie is that everyone "acts" and knows their vital roles in every scene, according to The Telegraph.

Best Director Nominees:

  • George Miller -Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu - The Revenant
  • Lenny Abrahamson -Room
  • Tom McCarthy -Spotlight
  • Adam McKay -The Big Short

Predicted Winner: George Miller

From the start of the movie, Miller gives viewers no time to "ease" in the world of Mad Max. The director establishes Max's character and motivation perfectly, with about a minute total screen time. The movie puts audiences at the edge of their seat, Rogerebert.com stressed. 

Best Actor Nominees:

  • Michael Fassbender -Steve Jobs
  • Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl
  • Matt Damon - The Martian
  • Leonardo DiCaprio -The Revenant
  • Bryan Cranston -Trumbo

Predicted Winner: Leonardo DiCaprio

Will Leonardo finally get his trophy this year? Most of the movie fans praised DiCaprio's performance in The Revenant. Moreover, several critics applauded his gut-wrenching scene in the film, where he ate a raw bison liver, which is exactly the kind of best-actor role that the Academy likes to reward.

Predicted Winner: Brie Larson

Larson is the front-runner in the Best Actress award. The American actress and singer has already won numerous precursor awards including the National Board of Review, the Golden Globe, as well as the Critics' Choice. Many experts also predict she will also win at this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards.
