This year we have seen a massive rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Note 3 across multiple U.S. mobile service providers. Here is an overview of what is available at three major carriers - Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon.

Sprint  

Sprint was the first U.S. carrier ever to roll out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Over the years, it has developed a reputation for being the first carrier to release Android updates after the manufacturers made the upgrades available. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update is already available amongst international carriers only, but users in the U.S. will have to wait.

For the un-initiated user, the Android software and its updates are developed by Google. When ready, Google releases the software or updates, but it takes time for manufacturers to roll out the new software onto mobile devices. After the manufacturer starts upgrading the software for their mobile devices, it takes time for the mobile service providers to start implementing the changes.

At this moment, Sprint has yet to announce an Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. This is significant because in Sprint is usually the first amongst the pack to announce Android upgrades for the major flagship mobile devices.

AT&T

AT&T rolled out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for the Galaxy Note 3 in late march. Users were quick to note an improved GPS, camera, and music access. A new user-interface (UI) was also present in the roll out. The improved UI featured a redesigned status and navigation bar, color emoji support, improved captioning support, and strong security. Power use efficiency was also noticeably improved.

The Android 4.4 KitKat is currently not available for AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Note 2. At this time, there is no information indicating when AT&T is going to roll out the Android 4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy Note 2.

Verizon

Last Monday, Verizon began rolling out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, albeit over-the-wire. The over-the-wire option required the user to plug their Galaxy Note 3 to a PC desktop in order to download the software. It took Verizon an additional two days, to roll out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update over-the-air.

Verizon has not rolled out the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Curiously, Android Geeks reported that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update was also available for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. A quick search of the Verizon Wireless website shows no evidence that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update exists for the Galaxy Note 2.  It is more than likely that the information provided by Android Geeks was the result of a typo.
