In a surprising development, Google has launched the new Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 mobile devices.

Release in mid-June, this latest update is considered the definitive release version of the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system (OS). Voices from the tech gossip community suggest that Google is already at work with the next-gen Android OS software, which is either the Android 4.5 or Android 5.0.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update reportedly fixes a number of the bugs reported during the recent Android 4.4.3 KitKat update roll out earlier in June. Besides bug fixes, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is expected to improve security, performance, and security.

Last Wednesday, the Google I/O developers' conference in San Francisco, CA kicked off with the introduction of many interesting products offered by the tech giant.

Amongst its highlights, Google unveiled the Android L software, but did not offer a release date. The Android L features a plethora of major changes such as user-interface modifications, enhanced optimization with Chrome, and lock screen improvements. The Beta version of Android L for the Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 will soon be available on the Android Developers website.

In a disappointing development, the Nexus 8 tablet turned out to be a no-show at Google I/O despite earlier speculation in the Nexus fan community. The Nexus 8 is rumored to be the replacement for Google's well-received Nexus 7 tablet.
