HTC One and Sony Xperia owners are now awaiting the Google's latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. Currently, the HTC One M8 and M7 have been updated to the original Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, Xperia Z3 and Z3 Android 5.0.2 update is only available to consumers in Nordic and Baltic regions.

Xperia Lollipop Update Still Missing in North America

Sony has yet to release an Xperia Lollipop update in other countries. Hence, Z3 and Z2 owners in the U.S. are still stuck on the previous Android KitKat firmware.

Last month, Phone Arena reported that Sony was certifying Android 5.1 Lollipop on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact. No further information has materialized since then. Previously, the Japanese company promised that all Xperia Series devices will be receiving some form of Android Lollipop. The reason for that delay has not been revealed.

HTC and Motorola First to Push Android 5.0 Lollipop

Google was in a partnership with HTC and Motorola during the initial Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out. This collaboration allowed both manufacturers to push the original Lollipop ahead of competitors.

At this time, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is available on HTC One M8 and M7 devices from Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

Even so, there is no word from HTC regarding when or if the One Series will be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. There is speculation in the rumor mill that HTC may be holding back for an Android 5.1.1 release. Nonetheless, this information should still be taken with a grain of salt.  

Happily though, HTC One M8 owners who bought their devices through Google Play will be entitled to an Android 5.1 update.  

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Introduced

In the meantime, Google's own Nexus Series will be the first to receive the newest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. The Mountain View-based tech giant has plans to roll out the newest Android Lollipop to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 devices.

Android 5.1.1 apparently fixes many of the bugs associated with Android 5.1 Lollipop. Naturally, consumers will need to wait for device manufacturers to distribute the new update. It is only a matter of time before Android 5.1.1 Lollipop becomes available to other manufacturers.

At this time, neither Sony nor HTC have announced plans to push Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to their flagship lineup.

Earlier this month, a clip showing Android 5.1.1 running on the Xperia Z3 surfaced on YouTube. The circumstance behind this video remains a mystery.
