Android 5.1 Lollipop update is coming to the Moto G, Moto X (1^st and 2^nd Gen), and Moto E - which Motorola recently confirmed. Even so, U.S.-based users have yet to see the latest Android rolling out to their phones.

Even so, there are signs that Motorola is prepping the Android 5.1 Lollipop for release on a number of flagship devices. In the section below, we will look at the latest development and rumors for the upcoming Android update.

Moto G (2^nd Gen, 1^st Gen)

TechDroider recently published a photo of what appears to be an Android 5.1 Lollipop running on the Moto G (2^nd Gen). The photo was apparently taken in February. Naturally, the source was anonymous.

Still, Motorola has yet to announce an official rollout schedule for Android 5.1 Lollipop on Moto G (2014). For now, users are still stuck on the first generation Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware.

The first-generation Moto G device is also awaiting an Android 5.1 Lollipop update as well. Also dubbed the Moto G (2013), the Moto G (1^st Gen) is currently running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Moto X (2^nd Gen)

Last month, Motorola announced that it was testing Android 5.1 Lollipop on the Moto X (2014). It also released an Android 5.1 Lollipop changelog for the 2^nd Gen Moto X.

Since then, the company has remained quiet in regards to a possible rollout schedule for the Moto X (2014) Lollipop Update. Happily, Moto X (2014) users have the slightly older Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, which is not available on the first-generation Moto X.

Moto X (1^st Gen)

In early April, Motorola spokesman David Shuster confirmed that the expected Android 5.0.2 Lollipop rollout for the Moto X (2013) was indeed cancelled. Instead, the first-generation Moto X will be jumping forward to the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update.

Unfortunately, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update Moto X (2013) is only available for Brazilian users at this stage. It is not clear when Motorola will start making Android 5.1 Lollipop available to major U.S. wireless service providers.

One reason why Lollipop has been delayed for the Moto X (2013) is due to the device's aging Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. In March, Motorola conducted a limited-scale Android 5.0 soak test for the Moto X (2013).  Though test results were never made public, the Moto X (2013) did not receive the expected Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update.

Until the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update arrives, all Moto X (2013) devices in the U.S. are stuck on the fairly ancient Android KitKat OS. The official announcement on the Motorola site simply states, "This device will be upgraded to Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support."

Moto E

Just like the Moto G and Moto X, the Moto E will be getting Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, the Android update is still missing on the Moto E.
