Samsung was amongst the first to update Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on a number of its devices. These included the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Meanwhile, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge is still missing.

Naturally, users with unlocked Samsung devices got their updates first. The question that remains is when carriers will start rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to subscribers stuck with locked devices.

Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge

T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular service plans have already rolled out updates OTA for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. However, AT&T and Verizon have not released similar Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates. It is not clear whether they plan to release this update in the future.

Samsung Galaxy S5

To date, T-Mobile is the only carrier to have rolled out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S5. Other U.S. carriers have yet to confirm plans to release the newer Lollipop on their versions of the Galaxy S5.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

The Galaxy Note 4 has yet to receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop despite rumors to the contrary. Earlier this year, SamMobile reported that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop was being tested on the Galaxy Note 4. Since then, there has been no further information supporting a mass release of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

This does not necessarily mean that the Galaxy Note 4 will not receive the Android 5.1.1 update in the future. Nonetheless, further information regarding this firmware update remains elusive at the moment.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

Unfortunately, Samsung has not rolled out an Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note Edge. Curiously, Canadian service provider Rogers stated that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be available by August.

Even so, this information should still be regarded with a grain of salt considering that there is no official word from Samsung. For now, users in the U.S. will need to wait patiently for further updates from the South Korean tech giant.

Android "M" Release Date Rumors

For now, Android "M" is only available as preview edition for developers. That means the average user will need to wait awhile before the firmware update is ready for mass consumption. Hence, Google has not officially announced when Android "M" will be rolling out.

TechRadar predicts that Android M will have its release date in September. Of important reminder, the M-designation will be dropped once Google formally announces a name. The Mountain View-based tech giant has a habit of naming its Android firmware after sweet confections. For instance, the previous two Androids were respectively called KitKat and Lollipop. Unless Google breaks from tradition, Android "M" will certainly be named after a sweet food item.
