Tech giant Motorola has confirmed it would upgrade its operating system to at least 11 of the company's flagship smartphones and offer the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

According to a report by Softpedia, the U.S.-based handset-maker has released the following gadgets to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the next couple of months. These are: 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen), 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen), 2015 Moto X Play, 2015 Moto G (3rd gen), 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen), 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia (2nd gen), 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE (2nd gen), DROID Turbo, 2014 Moto MAXX, 2014 Moto Turbo, and Nexus 6.

However, it was noted that the U.S. versions of Moto X (2nd Gen) smartphones offered by Verizon and AT&T were not included in the list, fueling speculations Motorola does not intend to offer the OS upgrade to these mobile phones yet.

The same report added that they have received report from Droid-Life citing Wi-Fi certifications for the Verizon and AT&T versions of the Moto X (2nd Gen). The certifications reportedly mentioned Android 6.0 Marshmallow in their listings, which could mean that Motorola is planning on upgrading the smartphones OS.

However, the same speculation was shared by Android Headlines who said that Motorola might after all upgrade the AT&T & Verizon versions of the Moto X (2nd Gen) with Google's latest version of the Android operating system.

Android Headlines wrote, "In fact, some companies, like Motorola for instance, released a list of devices which would be seeing the update once it is ready. However, in the case of Motorola's list, the list received some unwanted attention due to a couple of notable exclusions from the list. One of which was the Moto X (2nd Gen) for the U.S. on AT&T and T-Mobile. This inevitably lead to some questioning whether the carrier variants of the Moto X (2014) in the U.S. would receive the update at all. A question which to the dismay of many, seemed to be answered when a Motorola forum manager confirmed that they won't be seeing the update."

The report also cited the Wi-Fi certifications for the AT&T & Verizon versions and claimed that the Moto X (2nd Gen) in the U.S. will eventually receive the Android 6.0 marshmallow.

However, the Wi-Fi certifications were dated Sept. 30, while Motorola released its official list of 11 smartphones for Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade in early October. It is still unclear at this time if the AT&T & Verizon Moto X (2nd Gen) versions will receive the Android 6.0 marshmallow update anytime soon or if Motorola is still working on it.
