Android L updates for Moto X 1st and 2nd Generation, Moto G, and Moto E have been announced by Motorola. The mobile carrier has graciously provided an official update site for all devices that are getting Android L, which is now commonly referred to as Android 5.0 "Lollipop."

Still, a number of Motorola devices have yet to receive the Android 5.0 update - despite the pending rollout of the newer Android Lollipop 5.1 update. Notable improvements for Android Lollipop 5.1 include Quick Settings fixes, HD Voice and dual-SIM support, enhanced security, and redesigned screen pinning.

In the sections below, we will look at the current situation regarding release information for Android L, otherwise known as Android 5.0. Naturally, the availability of the Android L is also dependant with participating carriers. Please note that this guide is geared toward wireless device users based in the United States.

Moto X - Generation 1

At this time, the Android 5.0 update for the Moto X remains unavailable with every mobile service provider in the United States. The official announcement simply states, "This device will be upgraded to Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support."

While it is possible to install Android 5 Lollipop on an unlocked Moto X, Motorola warns that doing so may affect future updates. Less experienced users may consider waiting for an official update from Motorola instead. Please, read Motorola's FAQ for further details.

Moto X - Generation 2

Happily, Android 5 Lollipop is already available for 2nd Gen Moto X devices at AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. So, 2nd Gen Moto X users may be seeing an Android Lollipop 5.1 update sometime in the distant future. Presently, the 2nd Gen Moto X is not available at Sprint.

Moto G

Android 5.0 remains unavailable for the majority of Moto G devices at this time. Curiously though, Android Police reported that Android 5.1 is available for the Google Play Edition of the Moto G.

According to the official Motorola announcement, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will be rolling out in stages for the Second Generation Moto G. The same statement also said that Moto G owners will get a notification when the update is available.

Moto E

The good news is that Second Generation Moto E devices come pre-installed with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Such phones are available at Verizon, Sprint, Virgin Mobile, and Boost.

Unfortunately, Android 5.0 Lollipop for the earlier version of Moto E has yet to roll out at U.S. Cellular and Republic Wireless.
