Which Android Lollipop update version is rolling out to your Sony and HTC? That is the question confronting owners of the HTC One and Sony Xperia series today. In this article, we will look at the present situation for the following flagship devices - One M9, One M8, One M7, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2.

Before we begin, please be aware that Google has rolled out three versions of Lollipop so far. These include the original Android 5.0, Android 5.0.2, and Android 5.1 Lollipop.

HTC One M9, M8, M7

One M9 owners already have Android 5.0.2 Lollipop installed in their devices. However, One M8 and M7 users are still stuck with using the earlier Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Happily, HTC may eventually rollout Android 5.1 Lollipop for all three flagships. That comes as no surprise, considering that Android 5.1 Lollipop is now readily available with many device manufacturers.

Naturally, the only thing preventing the majority of users from enjoying their Android update is the release schedule from the wireless service provider. Those who own 'unlocked' devices will obviously get their Android Lollipop update sooner.

Master Herald confirmed that HTC does not plan to rollout Android 5.1 Lollipop for devices older than the One M7. Owners still on the older HTC smartphones may need to consider upgrading to a newer device.

Sony Xperia Z3, Z2

Within April, Sony has been steadily pushing Android updates to every one of its flagship devices. Android 5.0.2 is already available on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3. The Japanese tech giant was amongst the last of the device manufacturers to roll out the Android Lollipop.

If rumors are to be believed, it appears that Sony is poised to push out yet another Android update. A recent report by Phone Arena suggests that the Japanese tech giant may have already certified Android 5.1 Lollipop on the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact in preparation for the rumored rollout.

However, it is better to take this information with a grain of salt considering that Sony has not made an official Android 5.1 announcement.

Android 5.1 Lollipop adds many new features to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. These include refinements to the quick settings, screen PIN, and device security. In addition, HD Voice and Dual SIM support has been improved. Apparently, Android 5.1 Lollipop includes the same fixes as Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

Currently, Android 5.1 Lollipop is available on the Google Nexus 6 thru 7 series devices. The only Google device that has not gotten the latest Android update is the Nexus 9. Motorola has also rolled out Android 5.1 Lollipop to a small handful of its Moto series devices as well.
