What is in store for the Sony Xperia Z5 update?

The issue with Android is that it gets upgraded often, and it is practically an annual event.  The latest is version 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) isn't on many Android devices at all, and this is especially true for the Sony Xperia series.  This is the latest news about the Android M Version 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date Sony Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4, and Z3 series and more for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular.

The Latino Post has reported that the Sony Xperia Z5, the Z5 Compact, and Xperia Z5 Premium are getting an Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout in some parts of the world.  Apparently, it started in Turkey, which means that the rollout should be going out worldwide, and soon arriving worldwide in places like the United States.

Last week, Neurogadget reported that the Z3 series is getting their Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, and that is almost true.  This is referring to the beta testers who are on the Z3 and Z3 Compact devices, as they are the ones who had a chance to try out the new Android UI before it went public.  They are the ones providing feedback on Sony's official Google + group, and then this will begin the rollout soon.

What is strange is how it almost looks like the Z3 series could receive the Android upgrade before the current flagship series of the Xperia Z5.  There really isn't much word from Sony as far as when these devices will be receiving their update, which is pretty normal for Sony as well as other companies that make Android devices.

It shouldn't be any surprise that Marshmallow is coming to the Z5 series first.  After all, it is the current flagship, and unlike other smartphone companies like HTC, LG, and Samsung, the Sony Xperia Z5 isn't due for any upgrade during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016.  The Z6 is not set for release later in the year, but at least, that will have Android M right out of the box.

Here is a full list of devices that will be upgraded from Sony, according to Tech Radar

  • Sony Xperia Z3+
  • Sony Xperia Z3
  • Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Sony Xperia Z2
  • Sony Z2 Tablet
  • Sony Xperia M5
  • Sony Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Sony Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Sony Xperia C4

Of course, the issue with when the update is coming is how when it comes, it will often come differently depending on the carrier that you have.  For example, if you are with US Cellular, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint, you might find that certain carriers will receive Android M before others do.
