The latest edition of Android operating system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow (Android M), was rolled out to Google's Nexus devices October last year. For other phone manufacturers like HTC, LG and Motorola, they have already started releasing Android M update in their respective devices. Now, Sony users are asking when they would get their Marshmallow update.

Here's what we know so far about Android M release date for Sony Z5, Z4 and Z3 gadgets.

International Business Times published that Sony Inc. will update their entire Xperia Z series smartphones to Android 6.0 Marshmallow this month. However, the tech company only released a beta version of the OS to selected devices like Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3. Moreover, the Android M update has received certification from Wi-Fi Alliance for devices like Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z4 smartphones.

When phone manufacturers update their devices to the latest Android operating system, they start with their newest gadgets, and then the update will slowly roll out on older gadgets.  In the case of Sony Xperia lineup, expect the latest update to the Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact smartphones.

Furthermore, the Xperia C5 Ultra, the Xperia C4, Sony Xperia Z3+/Z4, the Xperia M5, the Xperia M4 Aqua, and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are Sony devices that were released in 2015, so expect them to get the Marshmallow update soon.

The same source from IB times said the Xperia Z3 smartphones are scheduled to receive Android M update in February. Sony is reportedly testing beta edition of Android M to more than 10,000 users of Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact smartphones spanning across multiple countries in the Europe --- Norway, U.K., Finland, Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Sweden.

Tech experts said that beta testing is important to know the compatibility of Android M to Xperia devices.

Next month, Sony Xperia Z3+ and Z2 owners are set to have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For the owners of non-Xperia Z series smartphones like M4 Aqua, Xperia M5, and Xperia C4, expect the upgrade very soon.

The newest operating system from Google takes users away from the frustrating and bug-filled Lollipop to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This new operating system boasts updated security features, improved user interface and innovative apps.

For users who want to upgrade their devices to Android M, they have to do it via WiFi because the update is 1GB in size. It typically takes 20 minutes to download this operating system.

In a review from the Verge, Android 6.0 Marshmallow got a score of 8.5/10. The reviewer praised the system's new apps permission management and new app launcher.
