The biggest issue with the rollout of the latest version of Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) is that so few of even the newest Android devices have it.  This is the case for Motorola, which is odd as Motorola's phones run a version of Android which is almost stock.  This is the latest news about the Android M Version 6.0 Release Date for Motorola Moto X Series, G Series, E Series, Maxx Series, Droid Turbo and Moto Turbo Series on US Cellular, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

According to GSM Arena, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the second generation Motorola Moto G has started rolling out, and it is currently hitting 3G and LTE-enabled variants in India.  It is a rollout that has come as a result of a lot of soak testing in the region.

Pocket Lint reports that the Android rollout for Motorola devices have been occurring in India and Brazil, with the Moto X Style (third generation) and Moto X (second generation) getting it.  The 2nd generation of Moto X has been updated more widely all around the world, and that includes the United Kingdom and the United States.  An OTA (over the air) update has also begun to hit Moto X (2014) devices, and the Moto X Force has received its OTA update.

There is also a report from Tech Radar that in the United States, the Moto X Pure Edition (2015) is currently getting the Marshmallow update on Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular.  Those that have that device with those carriers should check now to see if it is available.  As for those that have the Moto X Pure Edition on other carriers, such as T-Mobile and AT&T (assuming they are available with those carriers), could be waiting, but it probably won't be a long wait.

This is the issue with Android rollouts, is that they will come to a certain device on a certain carrier, but not other carriers.  It is common, and there really isn't a pattern of who gets the upgrade first.  We do know that these are the Motorola phones that should be receiving the upgrade, but there aren't any specific dates of when:

  • 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (third-gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Style (third-gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Play
  • 2015 Moto G (third-gen)
  • 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (second-gen)
  • 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia (second-gen)
  • 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (second-gen)
  • 2014 Moto Maxx
  • 2014 Moto Turbo

In addition to the devices listed above, it is reported that the 4G version of the Moto E (2nd Generation) is going to receive Marshmallow, but only in Europe, Latin America, Canada, and Asia.
