Summer had just finished high school with the intention of entering college. At the time, she was balancing attention to a job, rodeo competitions---and a recent boyfriend, Jason. Shortly after high school graduation, the truth of her pregnancy, however, threatened to shatter those dreams. At first, Jason was ecstatic to hear about becoming a father, but the excitement soon dwindled after more thought. After hesitant consideration, the couple eventually decided that abortion was the only route to go. Summer was seven weeks pregnant.

"...I had full hands. On top of that I had to go out of town for a week to work a horse show. I grew nauseous the entire time and had missed my period. I was positive I was pregnant.”

Needless to say, Summer was afraid, and decided on a visit to a nearby Planned Parenthood clinic. She honestly shares the opening emotions during that time:

“How will I be able to rodeo now?! What will people think of me? My parents are going to KILL me! I’m not ready to be a mom yet.”

With Jason at her decide, the two made the decision together to accept the abortifacient and its consequences:

"I didn’t want to do it, but I thought I had no other choice. The Doctor came in and immediately went into explaining the sets of pills I would have to take to successfully ‘abort’ my fetus to prevent a future surgical one. I grew more and more hesitant, wondering if I was doing the right thing. I finally convinced myself there was really no other option, so I silently nodded my head as I listened to his directions.”

Summer added, “We tried our best to brush off what we had just committed, but the anguish and regret grew so overwhelming we had to pull over on the side of the road. We knew we had made the biggest mistake of our lives.”

She promptly took the first pill, but wept in the car all the way home. Its work would effectuate the disintegration of the placenta, thereby depriving the baby of nutrition.

 The couple pulled over on the side of the road, where anguish and conviction moved the expecting mother and her boyfriend to the thought of a possible reversal. While the Planned Parenthood administrators denied the potentiality, however, repentance wrought hope.

Upon returning home, Summer and Jason found the name of a counselor who directed them to a doctor which, in turn, confirmed the fact that, with a double dose of progesterone combined with prenatal vitamins, the baby could be saved since the second pill had not yet been ingested.

“We cried out to God for forgiveness and healing. We begged Him for a second chance, if only we could take it ALL back.”

Nine weeks later, a free ultrasound revealed a healthy, beautiful baby.

Indeed, God provided and even brought reconciliation with the family members who initially opposed the continued pregnancy. Jason and Summer were married and the baby, a girl named Finley, was born January 5 of of this year.
