On September 6, about 20 Bay Area Chinese Ministerial Prayer Fellowship (BACMPF) members had gathered together to discuss ways to contribute to Katrina disaster relief effort. After much discussions and planning, "Katrina Relief Fund" is established on Sept 9 for collecting donations from Bay Area Chinese Churches until Nov. BACMPF will give the funds under the name of Bay Area Chinese Churches to the on-site relief organizations.
KRF is also the first topic listed in BACMPF monthly prayer lists, as reported in their September Prayer newsletter.
BACMPF Chairman Wai-wing Chan, Rev. of Chinese Church in Christ, said, "Bay Area churches will help victims in New Orleans. We wish to gather funds through different organizations and sent it to them. The motive for the meeting today is to be the testimony in allowing more Chinese Christians to participate, and to allow the society to see that Chinese are not just here to occupy their land. This reflects the Chinese Christians' attitude towards the society."
For churches that want to contribute, a tax-exempt receipt should be made out to "Chinese For Christ Church of San Jose" and mention (Katrina Relief Fund or KRF).
