Bishop Adebiyi Tasks Anglican Youths On Sports

ANGLICAN youths have been told not to lose sight of their core Christian values of fairness and humility in victory in their sporting pursuits.

Bishop of Diocese of Lagos West Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. (Dr) Peter Awelewa Adebiyi, who gave the charge at the final of the maiden edition of the Bishop's Cup at the Sky Power open field, Ikeja, at the weekend, also urged them to portray good leadership amongst their colleagues.

"You have a key role to play in Christian sports evangelism. And I have no doubt whatsoever that you possess a lot of talents and are able to win by employing legitimate means," said Bishop Adebiyi.

Chairman of the Anglican Communion Brigades (ACB) sports organising committee which put the event together, Olaniyi Daniel, told Sports Champion that the competition which kicked off on August 27, 2003 with preliminaries at the camp venue in Iganmode, Ogun State, will be an annual event to be held in November. Thirteen archdeaconries took part in the preliminaries which were on knock-out basis.

Daniel expressed satisfaction at the standard of the competition. Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral beat Isolo Archdeaconry 4-1 to lift the trophy.
