Cancer Patient Wins Free Pizza for a Whole Year, Donates to Food Bank

Cancer Patient Gives Prize Away
Cancer patient Josh Katrick did not think twice in giving his prize away.  Twitter

Josh Katrick had just finished his eight round of chemotherapy when he received the news that he had just won a year's worth of pizza from Mario's Pizza, a local restaurant in Northampton, Pennsylavania. But instead of celebrating the win, he paid it forward and donated his prize to people he believes need it more.

Katrick is just one of 1,200 people who joined the raffle at Mario's Pizza, which he has been frequenting since he was young. Now, the 36-year-old has decided that instead of him getting the monthly two large pizzas and soda that he would be getting for free, the food will instead go to the Northampton Food Bank.

His act of kindness has surprised  Mario's Pizza's manager Frank Gigoli, who says that his answer has struck a nerve in their heart.

"We asked the question, 'Who are you thinking?' and he said, 'Northampton Food Bank.' And it kind of, like, it hit a nerve...in the heart," said manager Frank Grigoli, as reported by People.

But  Josh Katrick did not think twice in giving away his prize. The 36-year-old, who has colon cancer, says his decision was inspired by generosity he has been receiving for the last few months. Despite the hardship of battling cancer since his diagnosis in July, Josh says he has been receiving so much support from people, and some of them were from people he did not even know.

So he decided to share his own prize with people he did not know too. After all he believes in the saying that when life gives you lemon, make lemonade. He has adapted the quote for his particular situation and said that "If life gives you pizza, share a slice."

Inspired by his selfless generosity, Mario's Pizza has decided not only will the Northampton Food Bank be getting the promised pizza to Josh, but that Josh will still get his pizza and soda every month.

Now Josh is thinking of sharing his pizza to his friends and even plans to make a contest out of it.
