At the beginning of January, Vatican held a general meeting of Congregation for clergy. Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos emphasized that the lay people can cooperate in diocese and in the councils of pastors, but charisma of leading the way of society of believers is in the hands of bishops and priests.
In the interview for Vatican radio he said, “that’s why we are united in the commission that God gave to all people. All of us are the members of Church ...”
There are many laymen who help pastors and are part of dioceses and councils of pastorate.
The members of Congregation for clergy at the end of their meeting on the 10th were received by the audience of John Paul II. Pope pointed out the need to modernize the structure of church respecting new professions and to not replace this structure with political models.
He also reminded the need to provide relationship between the work of laymen.
