Chinese Christian Mission (CCM) USA is now trying to recruit a short-term mission team to Macau this summer, aiming to mobilize young Christians in the U.S. to participate in world missions.

Macau Short-Term Mission is an annual event. On June 29- July 17 this year, a team of 8-10 members from the U.S. will be send by CCM USA to Macau. The trip aims to support CCM’s existing mission field in Macau and provide young people an opportunity to serve overseas.

As the mission field in Macau focuses on student or campus, CCM short-term mission team plans reach the students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by teaching English and various interest classes as a channel. The target group of the short-term team is the students from low income family, immigrants from China, 3rd grade to 12th grade.

Apart from English classes, participants of short-term mission team are encouraged to carry out personal evangelism before class, after class and during evening by direct conversation with students. On Sundays, participants may also join street evangelism to hand out Gospel Tracts and share Gospel at tourist areas.

Macau was a Portuguese colony before the handover to China in 1999. With its high population density and geological locations, Macau is similar to Hong Kong in many ways. It has close to 600,000 population and use Cantonese as the spoken language. According to the latest census, 6.7 percent of the population is Roman Catholic and 1.7 percent is Protestant. Just like Hong Kong, most people generally adopt a combination of Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian beliefs.

According to CCM USA, this is the ninth year since the first Macau Short-Term Mission was organized in 1998. In the past, the biggest team had around 13-16 people but it is found that 8 should be the optimal number of team member. In addition, the short-term mission team will have a balanced mix of American Born Chinese (ABC) and Overseas Born Chinese (OBC) to ensure a good communication with some younger non-English speaking children in Macau.

CCM USA promotes Macau Short-Term Mission among Chinese Churches across the U.S. College student or anyone 18 year-old or above is eligible for application. Applicants need to obtain a recommendation letter from a pastor to show that they are spiritually ready to go on a short-term mission. Over the last few years, young participants are proved to become more active in evangelism in their churches after coming back from the trip, some of them have even started to support mission work in long term.

"Since I've returned from our trip, God continues to bless me more than I could ever expect. Today, I am considering what else I can do to further God's kingdom. Knowing that I'm doing His work gives my life joy and real meaning. My hope is that God will provide me with many more opportunities to tell people overseas about Him," shared Douglas Ma, one of the participants last year.

"… the most profound lesson God showed me was His deep love for the nations. I have always wondered why the majority of Christians today seem to be of Anglo-Saxon heritage. However, by living among people of my heritage in Macau, God showed me He is not done with His vision and plans. In Revelation 7:9, John shares a vision of heaven, ‘...I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no on could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb...’ God desires to see people from all nations and of all lines of heritage to come to know Him," said another teammate Victoria Chu.
