In Game 1, Blue Jackets led 3-1 in the second period, but gave up two quick goals, ending up with a 4-3 loss to Penguins. Forward Derek MacKenzie scored a goal and Brandon Dubinsky assisted on Jack Johnson's goal.

The Penguins forward Brandon Sutter scored the game-winning goal on a 2-on-1 in the third period. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves but allowed three goals.
