Remedy Entertainment, creator of Quantum Break and Alan Wake, is co-developing the sequel of CrossFire, a popular first-person shooter game from Asia. South Korean Developer Smilegate announced its partnership with Remedy at this week's ChinaJoy expo.

Here's what is currently known about CrossFire 2 rumors, release date and update.

Smilegate said it teamed up with Remedy to make CrossFire 2 with an aim to use Remedy's unique brand of storytelling. The Finland-based developer is known for creating games with memorable characters, thrilling storyline and inventive gameplay, which Smilegate wants to incorporate in CrossFire 2.

In 2014, the first CrossFire is the world's top-grossing online game, raking more than $1.3 billion in global sales, as per report from Korean Herald. Forbes also reported the shooter game had $957M in 2013 from its microtransactions, besting the hit multiplayer game League of Legends.

The original CrossFire is insanely popular across Korea, Philippines, China, Brazil and more.

The shooter offers wide range of objective-based competitive 8v8 modes. It terms of story, the game is about two rival organizations that compete for a new world order. There's the Global Risk which is a private military group that fights for their own justice by helping the weak. On the other hand, Black List is a terrorist group that will do anything for money. 

Story-wise, CrossFire 1 is like a basic good vs. evil setup, but Remedy is expected to do something special for its sequel. Details about CrossFire 2 are still scarce for now. Rumors around the internet claim it will be powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3. In addition, it might have a PvE (Player versus Environment) and PvP (Player versus Player) modes. 

Based on Remedy's recent titles, it will focus on making CrossFire 2's story. The sequel might also have a single player campaign as well.

According to a release from Remedy, it has been developing CrossFire 2 for a while, and more updates will be announced very soon.

In related news, Variety reported Smilegate announced last year its plans to make a CrossFire movie. The movie adaptation will be produced by Fast & Furious Producer Neal Moritz. As of now, the cast, scriptwriter, distributor, and director have not yet announced.
