What will the Defenders do when they finally get together? Marvel/Netflix

Yes, Netflix has a hit for its streaming network with Daredevil, and as most of its viewers are aware, Daredevil was planned to begin a Netflix/Marvel universe that takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe of The Avengers films, but with a much darker feel.  So far, Jessica Jones has premiered last November, and Luke Cage and Iron Fist are coming up.  This is what is known about Daredevil Season 3, Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage and Iron Fist Season 1 Release Dates, Storyline on The Defenders

Many, including the recap that we wrote, have stated that Daredevil Season 2 was a backwards step for The Defenders universe.  The issue was that the Season had two big plotlines with The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung), and Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) had his hands full.  Although the Punisher plotline wrapped up pretty well (perhaps so well that he could get his own series), but everything with Elektra introduced the audience to the ninja outfit known as the Hand as well as some big bad plan known as Black Sky.

Daredevil Season 2 ended with a surprise with a teaser trailer for Luke Cage.  The teaser trailer doesn't show too much, but this character (played by Mike Colter) was given a proper introduction in Jessica Jones Season 1, which had very little crossover with Daredevil Season 2.  Just like the Ninjas didn't quite fit well in Matt Murdock's world, and it might not be a good fit for Luke Cage

What really might make the ninja element work is with Iron Fist.  The character has been cast by Finn Jones, and he will have some mystic martial arts powers.  Like Luke Cage, not much is really known about the plot of this show.

Now, it is possible that all of this Black Sky thing is a set-up for The Defenders.  If Marvel/Netflix wants to really bring all of these heroes together, then they are going to need some "big bad" to fight.  So far, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) was seen again on Daredevil, while the villain on Jessica Jones, Kilgrave (David Tennant) was killed.  However, the Black Sky thing was not very well handled with some giant pit that was not resolved, and Elektra's body begin carried away in the strange coffin that just signals a return of some type.

So far, Luke Cage is planned for September 30, 2016.  As far as Iron Fist is going to happen, look for it in 2017.  This leaves a lot of doubts as far as when Daredevil Season 3, Jessica Jones Season 2, and the Defenders Series will come out.
