'Daredevil' Season 3 Release Date and Possible Storylines

Daredevil Season 2
The Punisher, Daredevil, and Elektra from Season 2 of Daredevil Marvel/Netflix

Now that Daredevil Season 2 has completed, and we discussed the recap of the show, there is only a question of when Season 3 will be released.  This is assuming that there is going to be a Season 3, as Netflix and Marvel have not confirmed that season as yet.  Still, there is a lot that could be done with Daredevil Season 3, and here are some ideas for possible storylines.

It looks like showrunners Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie are quiet about possible plans for the next season, according to TV Series Finale.  As most viewers know, Daredevil is only one of four shows that Netflix and Marvel are putting out that take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with a darker and grittier twist.

Daredevil turned out to be a big hit, as well as Jessica Jones. There are two other shows planned with Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and the former is planning to be released on September 30, with Iron Fist expected later after that.  Originally, the plan was to have Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist meet up on a separate mini-series known as The Defenders, but audiences might have to wait a long time for that.

Therefore, it is possible that audiences might have to wait longer than a full year for the next season of Daredevil.  As far as what could happen, there is a definite cliffhanger in episode 13 of Season 2 where Matt (Charlie Cox) reveals to Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) that he is Daredevil.  It seemed kind of obvious that Karen had figured that out by that point, oddly enough.

In Season 1, Karen killed Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore) the best friend and assistant of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio).  Nothing about that subplot was even mentioned in Season 2, but there is some incident in Karen's past that was mention about a "Mystery Accident Causes Teen Fatality" as seen in a headline.  Will there be more on that in Season 3?

Then there is the "death" of Elektra.  I use quotes there as the character has been killed in the comics, and has returned from the dead.  The first time she was killed was by Bulls-eye, who never did appear in the TV series like he did in the 2003 movie.  It seems like the plotline with Elektra and the supposed Black Sky are something that might be handled better on the Iron Fist show, as that show looks to be more mystical in nature.  Perhaps that subplot and that big hole in the ground could even bleed over on Luke Cage.  We shall see.

The Collider has pointed out that the man who designed Daredevil's suit and billy club, Melvin Potter, is from comic book inspiration.  The character eventually becomes the Gladiator, who is a super-villain before he becomes a friend of Daredevil.  Perhaps he will work his way into Season 3, along with Stilt-Man.   Stilt-man is kind of a ludicrous Daredevil foe from the comics, but the presence of two stilts at Melvin's shop is an interesting Easter Egg find for fans.

Of course, the biggest thing that could happen is that Wilson Fisk could make a comeback, and with a vengeance.  It was quite a surprise to see him in Season 2, and it is very clear that he is very angry at Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson).  Granted, Nelson and Murdock are broke and disbanded by the end of the show, with Foggy about to work for Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) from Jessica Jones, but Fisk wants severe revenge.

The Kingpin's personal revenge plot could easily lead to one of Daredevil's most popular storylines from master comic storyteller Frank Miller, where the Kingpin of crime discovers that Matt is Daredevil, and goes after him personally.  This led to Matt Murdock losing everything, including his sanity for a little while.  This storyline began when Karen Page tells Kingpin Matt's identity, a secret that she knows for sure on the show.  If the show ever attempted this storyline, then they would really have to do it right, ending it with unveiling Nuke, a character who has just been revealed on Jessica Jones as  Will Simpson (Wil Traval).

So this storyline, which is known as the "Born Again" series, could easily occur in Season 3 with this kind of set up.  If it does, then it will make up for the disappointing Punisher/Elektra mash-up that was Season 2.
