Dark Souls III is the fourth in the series of Souls games.  The first was Demon's Souls in 2009, for the PlayStation 3.  Dark Souls showed up in 2011, with Dark Souls II (the name most associated with the Souls series) coming out in 2014.  The game series takes place in a typical fantasy setting, but it is not full of shining knights and beautiful princesses.  Instead, it is about a kingdom that has fallen into very dark times.  This is what is known about the release date of the third in the trilogy with Dark Souls III with its Apocalypse, Collector's and Prestige Editions.

The IGN game summary describes the world of Dark Souls III has fallen into some very perilous times as "players will travel across a wide variety of locations in an interconnected world of unrelenting challenge and deep RPG gameplay as they search for a way to survive the coming apocalypse".

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki states that the gameplay follows Dark Souls II, with players using weapons like short bows, firebombs, and dual-wielding swords to fight enemies.  There are also going to be shields to protect the players from suffering damage.  The difference between Dark Souls III and its predecessor is that the combat and movements are "faster and more fluid".

Also new to the game is "Ready Stance", which are special abilities for players to deal even more damage to enemies.  There is also going to be more emphasis placed on the role-playing aspect of the game with a more advanced character builder.  Of course, there will be multiplayer options available.

According to the Dark Souls III news highlights website, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe is creating three exclusive editions available for its available platforms on the PC, Xbox, and Playstation 4.

The Apocalypse edition is only available for pre-orders only, and it comes with the game, a metal case, and the official soundtrack on CD.  The Collector's Edition has the game, a Red Knight figurine, an A4 Dark Souls Trilogy hardcover artbook, metal case, the official soundtrack on CD, 3 Iron-on patches, a cloth game map, and an exclusive box.  The Prestige Edition comes with the game, a number 40 centimeter Lord of Cinder hand-painted polystone resin figurine, a Red Knight figurine, an A4 Dark Souls trilogy hardcover artbook, metal case, the official soundtrack on CD, 3 iron-on patches, a cloth game map, and an exclusive display case.

Dark Souls III will be released on March 24, 2016, but only in Japan.  It will then arrive worldwide on April 12, 2016.  There is a lot to look forward to with this game as it has won the Gamescom "Best Role Playing Game" award.
