Dark Souls 3 will soon be playable at the upcoming Gamescom 2015 convention, which is scheduled to be held in Cologne from August 5-9. Inevitably, the game will be compared with the well-received Bloodborne. While Bloodborne was launch on March 24, Dark Souls 3 will see its release date in 2016.

More to Be Revealed at GamesCom 2015

Bandai Namco recently announced that it will feature a playable demo of the game at its GamesCom booth later this year. Previously, Dark Souls 3 was unveiled at E3 2015, but only to invited members of the press.  The GamesCom demo will be the first public reveal of the upcoming title. Predictably, there will be more detailed comparison reviews between Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.

Bloodborne, which was released earlier this March, is expecting an expanded DLC later this year. So far, Sony remains mum on the DLC's release date and storyline. The game is currently running on patch 1.05, which was released back in June in order to address remaining bugs.

Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 Share Similar Mechanics

Though the titles were published by different companies, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 were developed by FromSoftware. As such, the games share similarities such as combat mechanics and character movement. This was duly noted in the latest issue of Edge Magazine, which received access to Dark Souls 3.

"There are traces of Bloodborne in the combat, too. While the new hero is no Hunter, he certainly seems more agile than before," Edge wrote.

However, Dark Souls 3's main difference is its innovative Read Stance mechanic that allows players to set up new attacks. One notable attack is the Spin, which is powerful enough to break through enemies' guard. Another area of improvement can be found in the animation.

"The backstep in particular has been sped up, and a longsword is swung more quickly too, with no apparent damage penalty (though enemy health bars - along with the entire HUD - have been disabled here, just as they were at last year's Bloodborne unveiling)," explained Edge.
