In the 2014 holiday season, Disney unveiled its first CG animated foray into the Marvel Universe with Big Hero 6.  While Big Hero 6 is not considered to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that spans through the Avengers to the Netflix Daredevil and Jessica Jones series, it was considered a modest hit, and something should be done if fans want to see more of Hiro Hamada, his plush robot Baymax, and the rest of the group.  This is why Disney has green-lit a series of Big Hero 6 to appear on Disney XD. 

According to Cinelinx, Disney announced that the series will not appear until 2017.  Working on the project is Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, who also worked on a hit series for the Disney Channel with Kim Possible. 

The President and CCO of Disney Channel Worldwide had this to say about the new series:  "Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series - full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob - and Baymax - can deliver."

The issue with creating a TV series based on a CG movie is often the quality of the animation goes down.  This can be seen with the Kung Fu Panda series, which looks downgraded from the quality of the movie animation.  In order to create several episodes, some cutbacks have to be made.

One advantage with Big Hero 6 is the world of San Fransokoyo, the fictional city that the first film takes place in (a blend of San Francisco and Tokyo) was one of the biggest virtual worlds that Disney animation has ever created.  In fact, it is an almost exact map of San Francisco down to each building. 

Clearly, Disney didn't want to let this set come to waste.  It would appear that the series would be about the further adventures of Hiro, who will be attending the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology.  Not only is Hiro going to experience the problems with being your average student, but he is also going to be facing challenges as a superhero.  So, it is very similar to Kim Possible, but Hiro has his team with Baymax, Fred (Fredzilla), Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and GoGo.  Hopefully, the side characters will get more development as the first film focused on the relationship between Hiro and Baymax.  And I'm sure other fans will suggest this, but why not do a crossover between Big Hero 6 and Kim Possible?     

The series should premiere on Disney XD in 2017.  If you aren't familiar with Disney XD, it tends to have shows that are a little more grown-up than the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, including Star Wars Rebels and the recently discontinued (but incredibly good) Gravity Falls.  That network also has a 2D animated Guardians of the Galaxy, which is also going to have another movie soon.
