Downton Abbey Season 4 Episode 1 will premiere in the U.S. tonight at 9p.m. EST on PBS Masterpiece.

Cast returning includes Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Joanne Froggatt, Penelope Wilton, and a host of others, with guest stars Shirley MacLaine and Paul Giamatti.

Season 3 ended with the birth of Master George and the death of Matthew in a car accident. A trailer from Season 4 premiere shows that Lady Mary is still in a dark place. In the new season, we will see Lady Mary take new responsibilities to help cope with her loss and bond with her infant son, George.

The synopsis for the premiere Downton Abbey episode reads: "Six months after Matthew's death, Mary is mired in grief, and the family and servants try to help her face a future without Matthew. Meanwhile, both Tom Branson and Carson face figures from their pasts, and Edith experiments with modernism."
