'The Following' DLC Coming Early 2016 (Techland)

Dying Light 'The Following' DLC has just gotten a confirmed release date schedule. According to its developer, Techland, the downloadable content is coming in the first quarter of 2016. That means 'The Following' is coming in either January or March 2016, which is just about one year after the survival-horror game began hitting stores.

"This gives us enough time to put in all the content and surprises we have planned for you guys," Techland producer Tymon Smektala said, according to The Express. "So keep your eyes peeled for some sneak peeks into what we have in the works for you all. And we promise to share the exact day of release as soon as we get a final decision."

So far, only a few tantalizing details for 'The Following' have been revealed. These include a fully customizable dune buggy that will be used to tour a vast zombie-infested, rural map. This is a big departure from the urban scene of Harran in the original release game. Also, there will be weapons included such as new submachine guns and crossbows.  It is not clear how Techland plans to incorporate Dying Light's iconic parkour style of gameplay in the upcoming DLC.

Gamespot reports that 'The Following' is Dying Light's first story-based expansion. Previous DLC such as 'Cuisine and Cargo' and 'The Ultimate Survivor Bundle' only added new maps and in-game items.

'The Following' will feature the talents of veteran voice actor Kyle Crane, who will star as the hero. Crane has participated in the project including Assassin's Creed and the Batman Arkham series. The premise of 'The Following' revolves around a secretive, mysterious cult. For now, this is all that has been revealed. It goes without saying that a lot is being expected out of the upcoming DLC. Despite its popularity, Dying Light is not without its ups and downs.

Techland inadvertently disabled modding with a patch in February, according to the Inquisitr. The Polish company further attracted the ire of the online gaming community when it allegedly misquoted YouTuber PewDiePie, who is also known as Felix Kjellberg). PlayStation LifeStyle reported that Techland advertised PewDiePie as saying, "I love this [Dying Light] game. It's sooo awesome!" Kjellberg denies ever uttering those words.

Controversy aside, the game experienced more commercial success than Techland's previous zombie title Dead Island.  To date, Dying Light is the company's highest grossing game. In March, Techland announced that Dying Light brought in 3.2 million players in the first 45 days of its launch. Since then, the game has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
