Evangelist Stephen Tong Leads 3,000 to Christ in One Night in Indonesia

By Joseph Leung

Thousands of Indonesians converted to Christianity during the Stephen Tong’s evangelistic conferences in the country with the world’s largest Muslim population.

Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministries International (STEMI) announced on their Facebook fan page that the events were held on five Indonesian islands – Ambon, Manokwari, Kab, Sorong, and Kota.

The first event left a strong impression in the ministry co-workers. While heavy rain drenched the open field, two thousand people stood and listened to the Chinese-Indonesian evangelist’s sermon.

Although the sound of the rain hitting the umbrella affected the participant’s ability to hear the message, the 70-year-old preacher, who had been hospitalized just months ago for fatigue and sickness, vigorously shouted out the gospel.

The ministry reported an increase of attendants, reaching 3,000 to 4,000 people, in the following events and close to half of the participants came forward during the call to entrust their lives to Christ and to follow the Lord.

The pinnacle of the Indonesia evangelism tour drew more than 8,000 people, which is approximately eight percent of city’s population, and had more than 3,000 converts on the last night in the city of Kota, province of Papua Barat.

Dr. Lillback, president of Westminster Theological Seminary, joined Tong in the tour and witnessed the transformation of thousands of lives in the Muslim-majority country through the reformed explication of God’s word.

Tong, who is the founder and senior pastor of Indonesia mega-church Jarkarta Reformed Evangelical Church, will continue his mission tour to other major cities throughout Asia. The ministry has requested that brothers and sisters can pray for Tong’s footsteps.
