FaithMobile Provides First Christian-Based Content Portal for Cell Phones

By Jennifer Riley

A new cellular service offering faith-based content for Christians in the United States and the United Kingdom has launched.

Good News Holdings LLC and The Barna Group has launched FaithMobile, a cellular service that provides faith-based contents such as Bible verses, ringtones, and inspirational audio and video “mobisodes,” according to a press release by the company on Dec. 23, 2005.

FaithMobile has signed with major Christian organizations for content including Promise Keepers, a Christian Men’s organization with over 5.5 million members, Extraordinary Women with 300,000 members, and Tyndale House Publishing – which prints the New Living Translation of the Bible.

FaithMobile and its partners believe in reaching out through convergent technologies.

"In our busy lives where we are all balancing family, work, church, and personal business, it's great that we are now just a touch tone away from the Word," said Jim Sands, COO of Promise Keepers in a statement released by Good News Holdings LLC.

The service is currently available in the United States and the United Kingdom on Cingular and T-Mobile and aims to be on all U.S. carriers early this year.

FaithMobile is a service created by Good News Holdings, founded by Martha Cotton, Christopher Chisholm and David Kirkpatrick – who have been producers, presidents and founders in the arena of TV, film and news media.

Good News Holdings is partners with The Barna Group, the most recognized organization providing Christian data to the world.

"We are proud to be providing the platform for the delivery of FaithMobile and look forward to helping create an environment where your faith is no longer limited by physical location, but instead can be accessed by everyone in a converging technological world,” commented Ian Dodd, Chairman of Pa3 Mobile, FaithMobile’s technology partner.

According to a study in September 2005 by Newsweek magazine and Beliefnet, 40 percent of Americans are seeking a closer relationship with God and over 70 percent of Americans pray on a weekly basis.
