Twentieth Century Fox on Tuesday released the first trailer for Ridley Scott's upcoming film Exodus: Gods and Kings, starring Christian Bale as Moses. It looks to be a big-budget, epic offering, in line with some of Scott's other greats like Bladerunner, Black Hawk Down, and Gladiator.

It's easy to tell in the trailer that no expense was spared, and the creators are using state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion. Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses, as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, portrayed by Joel Edgerton in the film. As most know by now, the events of the movie are a tale about setting over half a million slaves on a world-changing journey of escape from Egypt and the terrifying cycle of deadly plagues unleashed by God to set His people free.

All the drama of the Bible story seems to be represented well, judging from the trailer. The Hebrews struggle in slavery at the hands of the Egyptians, and the plagues make for a very uncomfortable situation. It's evident that Scott has locked in on the personal struggle between the two historical leaders, but his eye for grand imagery and incredible setting is not lost in this film. A horse turns from a cascading Red Sea at the end of the clip in an especially exhilarating and poignant scene. The movie also has a great supporting cast too, including Sigourney Weaver, Ben Mendelsohn and John Turturro.

Variety also reports that Scott and the team responsible for Exodus: Gods and Kings has been contracted to work on another Biblical adaptation, one involving King David, and the story of His ascension to rule, and the slaying of Goliath.

Hollywood continues to show interest in biblical characters, as many Christian movies have been made recently, and still others are in the works. Besides Exodus: Gods and Kings, Paramount recently saw success with the big-budget Noah, which brought in $359 million worldwide including $100 million domestically.
