Golden State Warriors Give One-Year Contract to David West, Harrison Barnes Bids Farewell to Team

Veteran NBA star David West has officially agreed to the one-year contract offered by the Golden State Warriors. This makes West the latest addition to the Warriors after getting Kevin Durant and releasing Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes.

West got his break in the NBA after getting drafted by the New Orleans Hornets as the 18th overall pick in 2003. He stayed with the team until 2011 when he opted out of his contract and became a free agent. On that same year, he signed a two-year deal with the Indiana Pacers that's worth $20 million.

He became a free agent again last year after opting out of his Pacers contract to join the San Antonio Spurs. But after only spending one season with the Spurs, he opted for free agency which then led him to Golden State, according to ESPN.

The veteran NBA star will make a great addition to the already powerful roster of the Warriors. By playing with the likes of Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, West will surely be able to top his career-high score last year which was 18 points and 13 rebounds in a single game.

Of course, with the addition of the new players, the Warriors had to release some of its own in order to create ample cap space. According to various sources, in order to get Durant, the team traded Bogut and rescinded their rights to Barnes. For next season, these two will play for the Dallas Mavericks.

Barnes, who became a part of the Warriors in their journey to the 2016 NBA championships series, bid farewell to Golden State through a post on the team's Twitter account.

"I just want to thank the entire Warriors organization, my teammates and coaches for the amazing four years I've had there," he stated. "I've grown up in Oakland and thank everyone for all the love that was shown there from day one."

"You guys have been rockin' with the team for decades before we got there so it was rewarding to bring a championship to the Bay," Barnes continued. "The Town, just like Ames and Chapel Hill, will always be a special place to me. I'm excited to begin a new chapter in my NBA career in Dallas."
